Gary Climbing at Toix

On Llobet/Bertomeu 5+ (HVS), Mascarat Gorge

Dave, Gary and I took a nine day trip out to Spain at the end of April. We stayed in the Benidorm area which gave us easy access to the crags around Calpe, Benidorm and Alicante. Although I had been to this area with Neil a couple of years ago it was great to be back for a few days in the sun whilst it poured and snowed back in Scotland! We did too many routes to list here but some of the highlights were Thalia (6b+), Espolon Central (4+ / S), Llobet/Bertomeu (5+ / HVS), Fuerza Bruta (6c) and Direct de UBSA 5+ (HVS). The last route mentioned was pretty intense as it was intended as one of our rest/easier days but turned out to be more like 6a+ with small very polished holds on pitch 2 and some funky pegs on pitch 3 – certainly not 5+ anyway.

Me on the crux pitch of Direct de UBSA, Penon de Fach
