Today was a great day to be on the West Coast of Scotland, glorious blue sky’s and enough breeze to keep the midges away. Dave and I took a walk into Great Gully Buttress on the Buachaille to climb June and July Crack which are both situated on the East Face. This face gets plenty of sun so the wall was very dry and the climbing on excellent rough Rhyolite. First we swung leads up June Crack (VS,5a), I ended up with the 5a pitch which was excellent and although over pretty quickly required some thoughtful moves off the belay. July Crack (E1,5b) was simply a battle of will, in the end I led the route in one long 45m pitch which beat me in the stamina department but I was happy to still be able to get up a long 5b route after so little climbing over the last 12 months. A great couple of routes and a super feeling to be back in the Scottish mountains on rough, dry rock!
Back to work this weekend but with travels, climbing and exploring on the horizon , its exciting times to come!! Happy climbing everyone….
