John getting to grips with Castle Ridge - Ben Nevis

John getting to grips with Castle Ridge – Ben Nevis

I have had a very rewarding couple of days in the mountains with John. He is keen to tackle some more graded scrambles and expand his ropework knowledge to help him with his own adventures with friends. John has been back to me allot over the years and I have guided him up lots of exciting routes which generally means I have to make sure I deliver a quality day whenever he returns. With just Observatory and Castle Ridge’s left to do out of the big ridges on the Ben we opted for Castle followed by a jaunt over Ben Nevis summit and return via the CMD Arete / Carn Mor Dearg. This was a pretty big undertaking but one that John took in his stride. The were other teams staying in the CIC Hut, most also went for Castle and a team of 3 climbed a very dry looking Centurion.

Saturday I worked for a large event company on Ben Nevis helping guide the first summit of a 3 Peaks challenge. The less said about this day the better so I will sum it up – atrocious!

I needed a good day with John today to round off his birthday weekend, so we decided to head away from the drizzle and climb North Buttress on Buachaille Etive Mòr. Its a great route which John enjoyed every bit as much as Castle. I thought a descent down Curved Ridge would top off the day, John was up for it of course which rounded up a great collection of routes for him.
