All good in the Lochan
Today I was out with Joe for a bit of a punt in Stob Coire nan Lochan. Allot of snow melted away in the mini thaw yesterday but with a forecast of strong winds and -4 at 900m we thought everything would be white enough up high. We met Ken, Scott and four budding climbers on the way in all with a different route in mind which is always good. As dawn broke we were met with bright blue ski’s and little in the way of wind, very alpine and cold enough to rime everything up nice and white – perfect.
We settled on Crest Route (V,6) which gave four super pitches well worthy of its three star status. The weather certainly got a bit more Scottish midway up the third pitch but it just made the route more fun and challenging. Take care on the approach, there has been allot of drifting over the last week and there are some unstable layers lurking about.
