Louis and I walked into Stob Coire nan Lochan today and climbed the 3*** classic Dorsal Arête. An early team had put in a great trail up the path for the many teams that followed. The edge of my boot managed to slip of the niche on ‘the slab’ on the walk in, but aside from this small fumble the day was superb and a real insight for Louis into what Scottish Winter Climbing is all about.
Four Jagged Globe teams joined us on Dorsal Arête but I managed to get slightly ahead which made sure there were plenty of belays options for everyone. The rocks were well buried and took some excavating to find gear, I had the pleasure of breaking the trail which I quite enjoyed after a relaxing day yesterday. There was enough snow on the route itself to have formed pockets of windslab, so some careful and often fast movement kept us safe. The crux arête was as good as ever, Louis came across with a big smile on his face – a great day had by all.
