Today I was out with Rich and Nick both hoping to summit Ben Nevis before making their way south to attempt Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The morning dawned with plenty of fresh snow, right down to around 400m. This new soft deposits didn’t make any difference to the walk up but with a biting Northerly wind it felt bitter. The guys made good progress but slowly and surely there was a divide in fitness and Nick started struggling. Having only just recovered from a serious operation we decided to turn back just after corner five; much to Rich’s disappointment but sometimes these things are unavoidable. Conditions above 1000m are very wintry with a definite need for crampons, warm clothing and competent navigation skills. Looks like things may stay the same for a while yet with more cool but calm weather forecast.
Beyond Hope have also sent me the new Warthog 28L Pack to test/review. I loved the older green model so I am very keen to get using it on Skye which kicks off at the end of the month. Salewa have also generously supplied me with their new Rock Pure Harness to review – light, tough and bright! Looks brilliant.
