I’ve just finished two days work on classic Lochaber mountains. Yesterday (working for Lochaber Guides) I took Petula and Martin up Buachaille Etive Mor which was to be their first Scottish Munro. The approach up Coire na Tulaich was icy as expected so we used crampons and axe (another first for the guys) to help us get up and onto the Col. The walk to the summit of Stob Dearg was largely snow free, the view from the top didn’t disappoint! What a  great way to celebrate Petula’s 60th Birthday. We reversed the route using the rope for the steep upper section. With sore legs the guys were beaming all the way back to the van, hopefully Stob Dearg will be the first of many for them.

Today I was back on Ben Nevis, this time with John and Nadine who had both just finished the West Highland Way. John had travelled from the USA to complete the walk, Nadine from Switzerland, both were keen to finish of their Scottish adventure with an ascent of the UK’s highest mountain. The sun shone all day, we wore crampons above 1000m and made good time up and down. Another fine day to be in the Highlands!
