Saturday Mark and I walked up Ben Nevis via the mountain track. A snowy summit marked his 51st Birthday, which was a nice edition to his 50th Birthday (Snowdon) and 49th (Scafell Pike). We encountered soft slushy snow above 1000m and a well rimed up summit cairn but not enough snow or ice to warrant full winter equipment.
In stark contrast to Saturdays chilly ascent, yesterday was spent in a damp and muggy Glencoe tackling Marks first scramble up the ZigZags before walking round the summit horseshoe of Stob Coire nan Lochan. The cloud shrouded everything above 500m for most of the day and although it was damp we managed to get away without doning full waterproofs – bonus.
The snow has again receded on Ben Nevis however, we have a sustained period of cold, stormy weather approaching over the festive period. The snow is long overdue but will hopefully provide enough to go play in during the new year period. This weekend I was working for Lochaber Guides.
