What a difference a day makes! Plenty of snow has fallen over the weekend leaving us with a good covering down to around 600 meters. Until the snow consolidates this week most of it is a little unhelpful but the new snow made our ascent of Tower Ridge pretty perfect today.
Lucian comes from a strong rock climbing background but hasn’t done so much in winter and never been to the North Face of Ben Nevis. With his 50th Birthday looming I thought what better way to celebrate than a winter ascent of Tower Ridge which has to be one of the best routes of its type in the country. There was only one team some distance ahead of us so a track was a little help but it soon disappeared as they took a wrong turning before the eastern traverse leaving us with the perfect finish of breaking trail up the Great Tower and over Tower Gap. So good to have snow down to low levels and with storms all week conditions will be building for a productive February. Today I was working for West Coast Mountain Guides.
